Artist Talk

March 11, 2 - 3 pm

Fanny Tavastila is a Finnish visual artist, living and working in Helsinki. The Studio, her first solo exhibition in Germany, is bringing a piece of Tavastila’s studio in Helsinki’s legendary Cable Factory to Berlin, offering an intimate view into her practice in the context of her studio surroundings. On show are a new body of work consisting of oil paintings, watercolours and a site specific installation.

Fanny Tavastila's oil paintings are characterised by rich layering of colour, the strokes are tightly rooted in personal experiences.

The Studio is retrieving from the artist’s experience of the physical, private space, the cocoon knitted of accumulated memories and emotions. We can trace the personal narrative in the studio, in its objects and in the paintings. The paintings are intuitive studies of what is left, of what becomes important and crystallised when the space is narrowed down and concentrated, when the noise disappears.
